Comprehensive Action Plan to Address Public Safety in Downtown Boston and the Boston Common
BOSTON, Monday, March 7, 2025, 4:00pm ET - Following last Thursday's major public safetysummit, city and state officials, law enforcement leaders, and other Downtown Boston stakeholders - including civic organizations, shelters, churches, businesses, trade groups, and institutional partners - have come together to develop a comprehensive action plan to address ongoing challenges in Downtown Boston, including congregate drug use; crime, including retail theft; and homelessness.
The coalition of stakeholders has agreed to several immediate actions and next steps, which will be undertaken by a newly formed task force and committees focused on delivering measurable outcomes. The One Downtown Task Force is being finalized and will serve as the primary coordinating body. Mayor Michelle Wu, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden, State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, and civic leaders will continue to provide leadership.
To ensure transparency and accountability, progress on action items will be tracked in a public-facing spreadsheet (see link below) that will be updated regularly. Together, these stakeholders are committed to improving the safety, experience, and quality of life of everyone who lives, works, visits, and does business in Downtown Boston.
